About The Pilates Method

The Pilates Method was developed over 80 years ago by German immigrants, Joseph H. and Clara Pilates.  Modeling personal discipline with great charisma, “Uncle Joe” lived his life according to three main ideas:

  • Whole Body Health – is the ongoing benefit of a healthy lifestyle; that balance of physical fitness, diet, fresh air, sleep, personal cleanliness, work, play, and positive attitude
  • Physical and Mental Discipline – is the essential mind-body connection during exercise which always leads to a deeply gratifying sense of well-being after exercise
  • Proper Breathing – circulates the oxygen throughout the body, coordinates exercise moves, calms and focuses the mind

Pilates developed a fitness regimen that captured the best of Eastern and Western exercise disciplines. He incorporated the concentration, breath and control elements of eastern forms of movement, with the strength and pacing of western forms of physical activity. Pilates always knew he was fifty years ahead of his time; and today, this time-tested exercise method is still acknowledged as cutting-edge fitness conditioning.

Include Pilates in your strategy for healthy living

Pilates training teaches you how to keep your body tuned and energized to meet the demands of work, pleasure and sport. It is excellent for improving recreational or elite sports performance; for rehabilitating and preventing injuries; for improving overall quality of life, and for slowing down the aging process.

This exercise method is well known for strengthening the deep, core muscles of the abdomen, back, and pelvis. Pilates focuses on many muscle groups at the same time, rather than one isolated group as in traditional strength-training. A Pilates workout uses variable spring-loaded resistance - instead of weights - to lend support, resistance, and precision for the body in motion.
